African Vernacular Movements Workshops

A celebration of dance, rhythm and culture in the African tradition: join us for a free day of workshops, performances and artistic collaborations November 8th, 2014: with instructors Sam Coleman (NYC) & Caro Diallo (Switzerland).

Workshops will be led by renowned dancers Caro Diallo and Samuel Coleman to help guide in African dance vocabulary, from traditional West African dance into Blues and Lindy Hop (Swing). Caro Diallo is a Master Dancer and Choreographer originally from Senegal who teaches worldwide and currently resides in Switzerland. Sam Coleman is a dancer and Lindy Hop, Blues, and Zumba enthusiast who is an Albany native currently working at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater Company in New York City. Caro and Sam join us in addition to local Capital Region dancers, vocalist, musicians, spoken word artist, percussionist and visual artists. Dancers of all levels are welcome.

The event is organized by Grand Street Community Arts, Ocasio Willson, and Albany Lindy & Blues.  Partial funding has been provided by the DanceFlurry Organization.
